Vallalar Science To Immortality
Saint Ramalinga Swami, known as Thiru Arut Prakasa Vallalar, lived in Tamil Nadu, Southern India, in the 19th century. He was born on October 5, 1823, in Maruthur, a small village near Chidambaram. He spent his early years in Chennai and later moved to Vadalur near Chidambaram. In 1867, he founded Dharmasalai to feed the poor and Sathiya Gnana Sabhai, a place of worship for Universal Light, Truth, and Consciousness. He adored the Tamil classical literature: Thirukural, Thirumandiram, and Thiruvasagam. His collection of Tamil poetry is known as Thiruvarutpa.
In 30th January 1874, Vallalar achieved immortality and the highest Siddhi of the Wisdom Light Body, becoming one with the divine, whom he revered as Arutperum Jothi (Graceful Big Light). Known affectionately as Vallalar, meaning the Great Giver of Grace and Wisdom, his poetry on God and immortality is called Thiruvarutpa. He advocated for universal brotherhood and peace, following the path he called Sutha Sanmargam, revealed by Almighty God. This path spoke of universal eternal truth, known as the true path revealed by Arutperum Jothi. The Vallalar Science Foundation’s mission is to spread Vallalar’s message of Sutha Sanmargam, the Meta Science of Immortality.

Sathiya Gnana Sabhai
Sathiya Gnana Sabhai, founded by Saint Ramalinga Swamigal, is a spiritual center in Vadalur, Tamil Nadu. Established in 1872, it symbolizes the unity of all religions and the quest for true knowledge. The hall is designed to promote meditation and inner peace, with seven curtains representing the seven veils of ignorance. Vallalar believed in universal brotherhood and divine light, and this place embodies his teachings. It is open to people of all faiths, encouraging them to seek the truth within. The center reflects Vallalar’s vision of a harmonious and enlightened world.
Dharmasalai
Dharmasalai, founded by Saint Ramalinga Swamigal, is a place dedicated to serving the needy. Located in Vadalur, Tamil Nadu, it was established in 1867 with the mission to feed the poor and uphold the values of compassion and equality. Vallalar believed in Jeevakarunyam, which means kindness to all living beings, and made it the cornerstone of his teachings. Dharmasalai provides free meals to everyone, regardless of caste, creed, or religion. This act of charity reflects Vallalar’s vision of a world where compassion and love for humanity prevail.
Jeevakarunyam
Jeevakarunyam, taught by Vallalar (Saint Ramalinga Swamigal), is a core spiritual principle focused on compassion for all beings. Vallalar believed that true spirituality is rooted in showing love and kindness to all life forms. He emphasized that acts of compassion bring us closer to divine realization and transcend religious boundaries, promoting universal spirituality. Vallalar founded Sathya Dharma Salai, a charity providing food and aid to the needy, exemplifying his belief that serving others invites divine grace. He taught that true enlightenment, or Mukthi, is achieved through compassion, which leads to spiritual growth and immortality.
Sathvisaram
Sathvisaram, a core teaching of Vallalar (Saint Ramalinga Swamigal), emphasizes the pursuit of wisdom and self-inquiry. Vallalar taught that true spiritual growth involves both external compassion and internal transformation through knowledge and introspection. Sathvisaram, the path of wisdom, encourages questioning existence and understanding reality for spiritual enlightenment. Vallalar believed that deep contemplation on life’s meaning and the soul’s relationship with universal consciousness leads to liberation. Sathvisaram complements Jeeva Karunyam (compassion for all beings) by sharpening the mind to discern truth.
Spiritual Revelation
Most of Vallalar’s works are Tamil poems called Thiruvarutpa. He taught and emphasized Jeevakarunyam (compassion for all living beings), which he said is the key to immortality or Mukthi & Siddhi. He also wrote prose on Jeevakarunyam and other topics in Tamil. He revealed the entire spectrum of spirituality openly.
Vallalar's Inspiration
Saint Ramalinga Swamigal, fondly called Vallalar, was born into a Saivaite family and practiced Saivism in his early days. He followed the path of Saint Manikavasagar (Samaya Sanmargam) and revered him as his spiritual Guru. Vallalar took the essence of Saiva teachings and revealed Sutha Sanmargam.
Liberation & Immortality
He revealed the path to immortality for all people, regardless of religion, race, or caste. He named this path Sadantha Samarasa Sutha Sanmargam. He boldly declared that immortality is everyone’s birthright and that God created us to attain it, as we are all His children.
Absolute Truth
Compassion Key
He preached Jeevakarunyam (compassion for all sentient beings) as the main spiritual tool to attain God and immortality. He called it Karunai Margam (the Path of Compassion). He also emphasized the need to practice Sathvisaram (the Path of Wisdom) to make this journey effective. He strongly believed that compassion is the key to opening the door to immortality.
Spiritual Path
Vallalar’s spiritual path is extensively revealed in his poetry. To understand it fully, one must know the six paths of Siddhantham, Vedantham, Nadatham, Kalantham, Bodhantham, and Yogantham. Understanding the basics of Saiva Siddhantam is essential to grasp his wisdom path, Sathvisaram (Enquiry to Truth). Knowing the Tamil language is a valuable advantage.
